On Thursday, October 31st, Krsna’s Free Meals hosted a vibrant Diwali carnival, and our members were invited to take part in this event. With 20 volunteers split into two shifts, we helped provide festive Diwali meals to thousands of migrant workers in Singapore—individuals who often face difficult living conditions in crowded dormitories. This annual tradition aims to bring some joy and a sense of celebration to these workers' lives, allowing them to enjoy a free, delicious meal during the celebratory season.
Some of our members began as early as 9:00 am, working tirelessly until noon. The second group of 10 volunteers took over from then to 2:30 pm, continuing the mission of delivering food. The work was physically demanding, as we rushed around delivering meals to the large crowd of workers, and at times, the situation became more challenging when food from the kitchen was delayed. Despite these obstacles, the experience was incredibly fulfilling. The smiles and appreciation from the migrant workers made every moment worthwhile. In addition to the food, workers were treated to a mix of sweet and savory dishes, a refreshing bottle of water, and even an umbrella to shield them from the sun.
The small moments we shared with the attendees made the long hours and hard work feel truly rewarding. Conversations with the workers were filled with joy and gratitude, reminding us of the impact we were making. We even had the chance to meet the famed celebrity Yung Raja (a Singaporean rapper), a testament to how popular the carnival was. This experience has left a lasting impression, and we sincerely hope to be part of this meaningful event again next year, continuing to spread happiness to those who need it most.
